Wallset guide
How to organize wallpapers on Mac
A straightforward way to organize a Mac wallpaper folder with useful filenames, previews, file details, recoverable deletion, and optional Wallset collections.
Reviewed
A useful wallpaper library does not need complicated tags or a cloud account. A normal folder, consistent filenames, and a quick way to preview and maintain the files are enough for most collections.
Keep one clear source folder
Start with a dedicated folder such as ~/Pictures/Wallpapers. Keeping the source files together makes backups, Finder access, and migration to another Mac straightforward.
Use filenames you can search
Wallset's local search matches filenames without case sensitivity. Names such aslofoten-aurora.webp or dark-abstract-hills.jpg are more useful than a camera export number when you want to filter quickly.
The search is deliberately literal. It does not infer subjects, use AI, or search hidden tags, so a small amount of filename consistency pays off.
Choose the right view for the task
- Grid gives the fastest visual overview.
- List keeps filenames compact and scannable.
- Preview List combines larger rows with a dedicated preview pane.
- Horizontal presents the current choice as a centered filmstrip.
Preview before changing the desktop
Press Space for a full-size preview. Use ⌘I to inspect pixel dimensions, file size, and date added before deciding whether a file belongs in the library.
Rename and remove carefully
Wallset can rename the real file from the picker. Deleting moves it to macOS Trash after confirmation, so the action remains recoverable until the Trash is emptied.
Add collections when folders are not enough
Wallset Pro collections group wallpapers into named sets without requiring a separate online account. A wallpaper can remain in the main local library while participating in the collection workflow.
