Features

Everything a wallpaper switcher should be

Fast, native, and built to disappear into your workflow until you need it.

Instant hotkey access

Press Space to summon Wallset from anywhere. Set your own shortcut whenever you want.

Keyboard-first by default

Type to filter local filenames, browse with arrow keys, preview with Space, and apply with ↩ Enter.

Drop in your favorites

Drag image files straight from Finder into your wallpaper library and switch to them instantly.

Free forever, right out of the box

Local folders

Point Wallset at any folder of JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, or TIFF images.

Four picker layouts

Choose Grid, List, Preview List, or a centered Horizontal filmstrip. Cycle them with ⌘L.

Rename & Trash

Rename files or move them to the Trash from the picker, with a confirm step.

Wallpaper info

Filename, dimensions, file size, and date added at a glance with ⌘I.

Full-size preview

Press Space to see any wallpaper at full size before applying.

Apply everywhere

One keystroke sets the wallpaper on every connected display.

Crossfade transition

A smooth 0.4-second crossfade on every manual switch.

Auto-rotation

Rotate to a random wallpaper on a timer, from 5 to 120 minutes, from your library or a Pro collection.

Shuffle & quick actions

Shuffle with ⌘R, restore the previous wallpaper, or pause rotation from the menu bar.

Menu bar icon styles

Monochrome, full-color, or text-only — your menu bar, your rules.

Launch at login

Start Wallset automatically when you log in, if you want it to.

Guided onboarding

A four-step first-run walkthrough gets your folder and hotkey set up.

Appearance

Make Wallset yours

Follow macOS or pin Light or Dark, choose eight accent colors and four picker layouts, switch between rounded and square corners, and tune names, outlines, and scroll indicators.

These are Wallset's own free appearance settings — they style the picker panel itself, not your system-wide macOS accent color.

Pro

More control when you need it

Try every Pro feature for seven days, then unlock it once—forever.

Collections

Group wallpapers into named sets — Nature, Dark Mode, whatever fits — and make any collection your active source.

11 extra transitions

Slide, Zoom, Wipe, Ripple, Iris, Diamond, Horizontal Bars, Clock Wipe, Star, Corner, and Cross join the free crossfade. They play on manual switches — auto-rotation always changes instantly.

Per-display targeting

Hold ⌘ while applying to set a wallpaper only on the display under your cursor instead of all of them.

Independent rotation

With Pro, auto-rotation gives each connected display its own randomly chosen wallpaper instead of one shared image.

Pro Browse

Three sources. No dead controls.

Search, browse, and download wallpapers without leaving Wallset. Choose a source, find something you like, and save it straight to your local library.

Wallhaven

No key required

A purpose-built wallpaper site, and the default source. Categories, a true Top Rated sort, and server-side resolution filtering.

Wikimedia Commons

No key required

The largest images of any source — editor-curated Featured Pictures routinely run thousands of pixels wide.

Pixabay

Works immediately

Popularity sort combined with search, plus real minimum-resolution filters. Ships on shared access — paste your own free key for a private allowance.

No account, no signup, nothing to paste — every source works the moment the app is installed.

Each source exposes exactly the filters it really supports — no dead controls.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Wallset a subscription?

No. Wallset is free to download, and Pro is a single one-time purchase of $7.99. Pay once, keep it forever — every update included.

How does the 7-day trial work?

Installing or opening Wallset does not start the timer. Choose Start 7-Day Free Trial when you want to begin. You can continue with Free and start it later, without an account or card. Once started, every Pro feature is unlocked for exactly seven days, and Settings shows the time remaining.

What happens when the trial ends?

Wallset keeps working. Local switching, the hotkey picker, crossfade, and auto-rotation stay free forever — only the Pro features lock until you upgrade. Collections you built during the trial aren't deleted; they become available again the moment you unlock Pro.

Do I need an account?

No. Wallset has no accounts and no sign-ups. The Pro purchase goes through your existing App Store Apple Account, like any other Mac app.

Does Wallset work offline?

Local wallpaper switching, collections, and transitions all work fully offline. Only Browse (downloading wallpapers from online sources) and the App Store purchase or restore need an internet connection.

Is Wallset a live or video wallpaper app?

No. Wallset switches, organizes, downloads, and automatically rotates still-image wallpapers. It includes animated transitions for manual switches, but it does not play videos continuously as live wallpaper, and auto-rotation changes are instant.

Do the Browse sources need any setup?

No. All three work the moment the app is installed — Wallhaven and Wikimedia Commons never need a key, and Pixabay runs on shared access. You can paste your own free Pixabay key for a private allowance if you want one; keys are stored in the macOS Keychain.

What are the system requirements?

macOS 14.6 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. Wallset is a sandboxed menu bar app — no Dock icon, no window clutter.

Where do my wallpapers live?

By default in ~/Pictures/Wallpapers, which works out of the box with no permission prompt. You can point Wallset at any other folder with a one-time picker grant. Supported formats: JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, and TIFF.

Can I restore my purchase on another Mac?

Yes. Restore Purchases in Wallset's settings re-checks your purchase with the App Store. And if Pro isn't for you, Apple handles all App Store refunds directly at reportaproblem.apple.com.
